Disney bought out Marvel in a blockbuster deal worth $4.6 billion last year.
The company also took control of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a deal that saw the release of Captain America: Civil War.
Now, Disney has announced it is working on a movie based on the comics, Marvel’s first ever.
The movie, titled The Last Man on Earth, will be released in 2020.
The studio is developing the film with longtime Marvel collaborator, Ben Affleck, and screenwriter/producer Aaron Kaplan.
Disney’s announcement comes days after the release date for the movie was announced.
The Last Men on Earth will follow the story of an astronaut stranded on an abandoned island, and will be the first Marvel movie since The Avengers to feature Affleck as the character.
Affleck will play the film’s protagonist, The Lastman.
The Last Man On Earth is the sequel to Marvel’s The Avengers, which debuted in July 2019.
Affcklleck starred in the sequel, with Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Paul Bettany reprising their roles.
The film was released in July 2020 and earned more than $400 million worldwide.
The final chapter of the Avengers trilogy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, opened in theaters in May 2020.
