The makers of the hit Indian movie The King, which opened in theatres on December 18, have been named as the winners of the Indian Film Academy Awards, the country’s biggest awards ceremony.
The winners of best picture for ‘The Great Khalsa’ and ‘The Return of the King’ were announced on Wednesday by the academy, which oversees the awards.
The awards will be announced on December 14.
The awards, in a bid to make the film accessible to audiences across the country, have attracted huge global interest.
The film is the most watched film of 2017 with more than 30 million views on YouTube, and its global popularity has given it an unprecedented chance to win best picture at the Oscars.
